Most people probably think of Africa as a destinations for safaris where vacationers ride around in jeeps, not on all-terrain bicycles. However, South Africa is home to hills, mountains, and forests, all of which are crisscrossed by mountain-biking trails. The Western Cape has some challenging routes and some more leisurely paths that pass by the region’s famed vineyards (you can stop in for a taste of wine if you want). Some guided tours traverse mountain ranges, pass waterfalls and rivers, and even run through areas where it is possible to see Africa’s exotic wildlife up close.
